Health Education England elearning for healthcare (HEE elfh) has re-designed the Statutory and Mandatory Training elearning sessions and eAssessments to be combined into a single package. This update will enable users to easily access both the knowledge content and e-Assessment in one session
As part of this update to the Statutory and Mandatory Training programme, we have also updated the Data Security Awareness Level 1 session and eAssessment to include General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and social care updates.
If you are part way through completing these programmes, please be aware that the previous courses will remain accessible within an archive folder until 31 March 2019; enabling users and local administrators to access historic certificates and report on learning history.
For those organisations currently using our AICC functionality to launch the sessions on their own Learning Management System, please note that the existing separate session links will remain active. New links to the combined sessions are now available.

Early diagnosis of breast cancer maximises the chances of survival so the availability of tools and training to support early cancer detection is vital. In response to this, the 12 Image Interpretation Breast Imaging elearning sessions will be updated this year.
The content, first published in 2014, has been used by over 2500 professionals including radiographers, nurses, students, doctors and allied health professionals. The average content rating by users is 4.3 out of 5.
Dr Sally Athey, Consultant Radiologist, South Tyneside and Gateshead Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, will conduct the updates. Each session will be checked for policy, procedural and technological changes, and updated accordingly.

Health Education England elearning for healthcare (HEE elfh) has worked with the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (AoMRC) and the Winton Centre for Risk and Evidence Communication at the University of Cambridge to add new content to the Shared Decision Making elearning programme.
The Shared Decision Making elearning programme is aimed at healthcare professionals, health improvement personnel and patient engagement representatives to inform and educate them on Shared Decision Making in order to embed it in day to day clinical practice.
Two new courses Communicating Risk – Primary Care and Perioperative Medicine – have been added to the programme alongside the existing courses – Guidance on Shared Decision Making, Dialogues in Shared Decision Making and Talking about What Matters.
The Communicating Risk course has two versions; one for primary care professionals and one for perioperative medicine professionals. Each course is designed to help clinicians develop skills for communicating effectively with patients about the risks and benefits of treatment options. Each course consists of four sessions and will take approximately two hours to complete, with each session taking approximately 30 minutes to complete.
Each version of the course includes examples taken either from primary care or perioperative medicine. It includes self-test questions and video consultation case-studies.
By the end of each course, participants will be able to:
* describe why it is important for clinicians to effectively communicate benefits, harms, trade-offs and uncertainties with patients
* explain the inter-relationship between shared decision making, evidence-based medicine and patient-centred care in the context of communicating benefits and
* list key communication skills needed when talking with patients about evidence
* explain how to effectively communicate statistical information to patients
* outline the role of decision support tools, potential uses and where to locate them.
The Communicating Risk course was originally commissioned by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care and has been licensed to the AoMRC as part of Choosing Wisely UK. It has been adapted for the UK by the Winton Centre for Risk and Evidence Communication at the University of Cambridge.

The Foundation elearning programme has been developed by the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges in partnership with Health Education England elearning for healthcare (HEE elfh) and is approved by UKFPO.
The elearning sessions in Professional Capability: 15 – is trained and manages cardiac and respiratory arrest. This is about knowing when not to resuscitate and how to manage this, particularly in relation to discussions with a patient and their family. The second session covers the management of issues surrounding a patient with possible tuberculosis and what to think about when considering appropriate respiratory isolation.
The elearning sessions in Professional Capability: 16 – demonstrates understanding of the principles of health promotion and illness prevention. This describes the risk factor for diseases with sessions on smoking, substance misuse, alcohol, and lifestyle.
The elearning sessions in Professional Capability: 17 – manages palliative and end of life care. This is aimed at helping doctors to develop the skills and understanding they need to give dying patients and their families care and comfort in their grief. It also considers the diversity of patients met in practice and identifies key cultural, spiritual and religious feelings and rituals.

A new training module to support the health of military veterans is now available for health professionals interested in veterans’ health matters.
‘Introduction to Veterans Health’ is now live on Health Education England’s elearning for healthcare (HEE elfh) hub.
Dr Jonathan Leach, Chair of NHS England Armed Forces and their Families Clinical Reference Group, has led the creation of the new module which can be delivered as a lunchtime learning session by NHS Armed Forces Champions (or anyone else suitably interested in veterans’ health matters).
The course takes less than an hour to deliver and consists of:

* Introduction to the needs of military veterans – PowerPoint presentation
* Two ‘top tips’ handouts
This module is part of the NHS Healthcare for the Armed Forces programme which is designed to help healthcare professionals increase understanding of the armed forces population and facilitate improved care and treatment. The programme was developed by HEE elfh with support from NHS England.

The NHS Knowledge Mobilisation Framework is designed to help individuals working in health and care to develop skills to mobilise knowledge effectively in their organisations.
The framework aims to help them to learn before, during and after everything that they do so that best practice is replicated and pitfalls can be avoided. It introduces 11 techniques to help plan, co-ordinate and implement knowledge mobilisation activities.
