About the Population Wellbeing Portal

The Population Wellbeing Portal is free to access by anyone who can positively impact public health and wellbeing.

The Portal offers free access to education, training and professional development resources, to help deliver improvements in public health and prevention.  Providing a central location for numerous elearning resources, reading material, guidance, toolkits and videos, factsheets and many more resources relating to population health.

The Portal brings together material from multiple sources. This includes resources from Health Education England (HEE), Public Health England (PHE); the Academy for Public Health for London and Kent, Surrey, Sussex, the Faculty of Public Health as well as many others.  It links with All Our Health, PHE’s framework of evidence to guide healthcare professionals in preventing illness, protecting health and promoting wellbeing.

More Information

Links to external websites such as the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH), Faculty of Public Health, UK Public Health Network and the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) will also be made available via the Portal homepage.

This Portal links to material on HEE’s elearning for healthcare (elfh) platform that has content related to population health and prevention and improving wellbeing.  Population health and prevention has also been chosen as one of the topic areas for piloting HEE’s Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) Learning Solution.  Click here for more information about TEL and the Learning Solution.

The Academy of public health for London and the South East commissions learning and development opportunities and provides a platform for sharing ideas, tools, and resources. It supports transformation in the capacity and capability of the public health system by working with organisations to develop a wider workforce that will enable everyone to lead healthier lives.

All Our Health
All Our Health is a resource for all healthcare professionals to help them use their knowledge, skills and relationships, working with patients and the population to prevent illness, protect health and promote wellbeing.

Chartered Institute of Environmental Health
The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) is the membership and awarding body for the environmental health sector. They provide training, accreditation and community for environmental health professionals working across the public, private and third sector.

eHealth
eHealth is a portal that gives access to a variety of learning activities including elearning and face-to-face courses to help prepare for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) injuries and incidents.

Emergency Services Resource Hub
The Emergency Services Hub provides access to resources for the three emergency services with the aim of sharing information, best practice and cooperation around public health. The hub has been developed by the Royal Society of Public Health, Public Health England and key partner organisations from across the emergency services.

Faculty of Public Health
The Faculty of Public Health (FPH) is a membership organisation for nearly 4,000 public health professionals across the UK and around the world. It is also a registered charity. Its role is to improve the health and wellbeing of local communities and national populations.

Health Careers
Health Careers is the information service about the range of 350 or so careers available in health. It is part of Health Education England and its aim is to support people in education and at all stages of their career to discover more about the health roles that are available, and how to get in and get on.

Health Knowledge
This learning resource is for anyone working in health, social care and well-being wherever they work or study. The resource allows you to access a broad range of learning materials for personal use or for teaching purposes in order to help everyone expand their public health knowledge.

Institute of Health Visiting
The Institute of Health Visiting is a UK centre of excellence supporting the development of universally high-quality health visiting practice. Their work contributes to raise standards in health visiting practice, so improving public health outcomes for all children, families and communities.

King’s Fund
The King’s Fund is an independent charity working to improve health and care in England. Its vision is that the best possible care is available to all.

Making Every Contact Count (MECC)
Making Every Contact Count website provides all those with an interest or role in population health and prevention with a library of national and local resources that can be used to support the development, implementation and evaluation of MECC programmes across local communities. The resources available include sample frameworks, case studies, signposting to useful elearning sessions and healthy lifestyle resources, amongst others. You can also find details of how to join a MECC Community of Practice and local and national contacts for this area of work.

Phinder
Phinder, a website designed to match-make Public Health workers with researchers. An online platform has been launched with the aim of capturing new and forthcoming interventions that have the potential to impact on population health and bringing them to the attention of public health researchers. The portal called phinder, which has been supported by the NIHR Public Health Research Programme and is endorsed by the Faculty of Public Health, aims to be a single point of access connecting public health professionals and researchers to research issues that are high priority in public health.

Public Health England
Public Health England (PHE) exists to protect and improve the nation’s health and wellbeing, and reduce health inequalities. PHE is an executive agency, sponsored by the Department of Health and Social Care.

Public Health Outcomes Framework
A framework focusing on improving public health outcomes and supporting transparency across a locally-led system.

Public Health Skills and Knowledge Framework
The PHSKF is a framework of public health functions developed through the collaboration of public health workers and agencies across the four UK nations. It is a key reference for anyone contributing to the delivery of public health outcomes and can be used to map activity and capabilities for individuals and groups and to support the planning of learning and development programmes, for both the professional and wider public health workforce.

Royal College of Nursing
The RCN is a membership organisation of more than 435,000 registered nurses, midwives, health care assistants and nursing students. The RCN is both a professional body, carrying out work on nursing standards, education and practice, and a trade union.

Royal Society for Public Health
RSPH is an independent health education charity and the world’s longest-established public health body. Their vision is that everyone should have the opportunity to optimise their health and wellbeing.

Training in Public Health
Working in public health requires a wide range of multidisciplinary skills. Podcasts which share experiences of working and training in public health across a range of organisations to improve population health.

The Local Government Association (LGA)
The LGA is a politically-led, cross-party organisation that works on behalf of councils to ensure local government has a strong, credible voice with national government. The LGA provides a range of support on a free of charge and/or subsidised basis, to help local authorities to improve including working with councils and their partners to help create a workforce able to respond to major changes within the public sector.

UK Public Health Register
The UK Public Health Register is an independent, dedicated regulator for public health professionals in the United Kingdom, providing professional regulation to public health specialists and public health practitioners from a variety of backgrounds, all of whom have a common core of knowledge, and skills.

National Association of Local Councils (NALC)
The National Association of Local Councils (NALC) is a membership organisation and the only national body representing the interests of local (parish and town) councils. NALC works in partnership with county associations to support, promote and improve local councils.

The Population Wellbeing Portal programme is freely available to access here.
Please note your progress and completion of sessions will not be recorded and you will not be able to generate a record of completion. If you require evidence of learning, please register and then log in to access this programme on the elfh Hub.

If you already have an account with elfh, then you can enrol on to the Population Wellbeing Portal programme by logging in to the elfh Hub, selecting My Account > Enrolment and selecting the programme. You can then access the programme immediately in the My elearning section.

Not an NHS organisation?

If you are not an NHS health or care organisation and therefore do not qualify for free access elfh Hub, you may be able to access the service by creating an OpenAthens account.

To check whether or not you qualify for free access via OpenAthens, you can view the eligibility criteria and register on the ‘OpenAthens’ portal.

Registering large numbers of users

If you are a HR, IT or Practice Manager and would like to register and enrol large numbers of staff within your organisation for access onto the Population Wellbeing Portal programme, please contact elfh directly.

Organisations wishing to use their own LMS

For HR departments wanting to know more about gaining access to courses using an existing Learning Management System please contact elfh directly to express interest.
