About the NHS London Region Virtual Safeguarding Conference 2020

This year’s annual NHS England and NHS Improvement London Safeguarding Conference is being hosted as a package of online modules.

The theme for this year’s conference is ‘Serious violence and exploitation’ and this online learning resource encompasses diverse knowledge, opinions and reflections from a range of expert speakers.

The conference modules are:

  • Understanding the Journeys and Experiences of Young People Affected by Serious Youth Violence and Criminality (Tom Isaac and Dwain Allen, Oasis Youth Support)
  • Childhood Trauma: A Life Perspective from Care Experienced Young People (Lin Graham-Ray, Senior Designated Nurse, Looked After Children, South West London CCG)
  • Safeguarding Older People from Domestic Abuse and Inter-Generational Violence (Maria Dunmore Gray, Independent Safeguarding Consultant Domestic Abuse)
  • A Perspective on Honour Based Violence and Abuse (Amaleehah Aslam-Forrester, Integrate UK)
  • Trauma-Informed Care: Working with Victims of Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking (Dr Jane Hunt, Senior Medical Advisor, Helen Bamber Foundation)
  • In Dignity: On Violence, Resistance and the Power in Language (Allan Wade, Family Therapist and Researcher)

Once all modules are completed, participants will be provided with a certificate of attendance.

In addition there are two supplementary modules:

  • Sharing Information to Safeguard Vulnerable People (Paul McCann, Regional Serious Violence and Contextual Safeguarding Lead London)
  • Healthcare Practitioners Who Harm and Those Who Give Us Hope (Margaret Flynn, Co-director of Flynn and Eley Associates Ltd)

An introduction to the conference from Gwen Kennedy - Regional Safeguarding Lead, NHS England and Improvement (London Region)
