About the National Numeracy Challenge programme

Improve your everyday maths with the National Numeracy Challenge

The Challenge is an online learning resource to help you check and improve your numeracy – the maths you use in daily life and at work, like managing your money, working out measurements or understanding percentages, rather than algebra or trigonometry.

In March 2020 the Challenge was updated with a whole new look, a new quick check so that it only takes around ten minutes to check your skills, videos to show that however you feel about maths, you’re not alone, and increased flexibility, so that you can choose how you want to learn.

However you feel about maths, you can use the Challenge to:

  • Quickly check your everyday maths skills
  • Increase your confidence with numbers
  • Learn online and improve your skills
  • Find out your current level, your strengths and weaknesses, and work towards the Essentials of Numeracy
  • Improve your confidence and skills in your own time and space so you can prepare to take a formal qualification like Functional Skills.
