The Endoscopy elearning programme is a free elearning resource for health and care professionals working in endoscopy. It has been developed by Joint Advisory Group on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (JAG) working in partnership with Health Education England elearning for healthcare (HEE elfh).
The Endoscopy elearning resource provides a programme of courses covering the core areas of endoscopy. Over the coming months further sessions will be developed to support the JETS Workforce e-portfolio.
This programme currently provides courses across five key areas:
The Core endoscopy course covers distinct areas of endoscopic practice providing an overview of the subject area and links to further learning resources. Interactive learning is incorporated into each session with a variety of question formats related to each subject area.
The course covers a virtual curriculum of knowledge-based competencies required by endoscopists, endoscopy trainers and endoscopy nurses to establish a firm foundation for their further training. This learning tool should be seen as an adjunct to additional JAG skills courses and completion of appropriate hands-on training linked to a portfolio or competency-framework, providing evidence of learning in areas that are central to the practice of endoscopy.
The Capsule endoscopy course covers the technical components of the capsule endoscopy (CE) procedure including the kit and software needed and introduce indications for the use of CE. It will cover how to report CE including identification of important landmarks and the spectrum of normal findings. It will also introduce the learner to pathological findings seen on CE and the possible spectrum of appearance these may have. Interactive learning is incorporated into each course with a variety of question formats related to each subject area.
This learning tool should be seen as an adjunct to additional JAG skills courses and completion of appropriate training, providing evidence of learning in areas that are central to the practice of capsule endoscopy.
This course will introduce endoscopy team members to the concept and importance of endoscopic non-technical skills (ENTS). It will provide a comprehensive overview of the communication, teamwork, leadership, situational awareness, judgement and decision-making skills necessary to undertake endoscopy effectively.
The JETS Workforce course is designed to support the foundation level of the JETS Workforce e-portfolio. This learning tool should be seen as an adjunct to the ENDO 1 face to face half day course and completion of the foundation and decontamination level (section 1 and 2) of the JETS Workforce e-portfolio. The completion of the elearning provides evidence of learning in areas that are central to providing high quality patient care. This course is required to complete the foundation segment.
This course is comprised of the following sessions:
This course is aimed at endosonographers undertaking or planning to undertake endoscopic ultrasound-guided tissue sampling by fine-needle aspiration (FNA) or fine-needle biopsy (FNB). The course will focus on best practice in endoscopic and sampling technique, as well as tissue processing, and emphasises the importance of auditing outcomes.
The interactive sessions of elearning are designed to enhance and blend with existing teaching within endoscopy. Each session of elearning takes around 30 minutes to complete and can fit in with busy work and study schedules.
The Endoscopy elearning programme offers knowledge based sessions covering a wide range of topics. The sessions feature graphics, animations, video and interactive exercises. Trainees can work through any session relevant to their specific needs, in any order they choose.
