About the Behaviour Change Literacy for Individuals and Workforce Leaders programme

Behaviour Change Literacy (BCL) is an understanding of the range of individual, environmental and policy influences that can impact on people’s health behaviours and why they are important. It includes key values, principles and core communication skills essential for person-centred individual approaches.

This training aims to build foundational behavior change skills of the workforce. It will introduce learners to behaviour change, what it is, why it is important and how it can be implemented. It is designed as the first step in a learner’s journey to developing their behavior change knowledge and skills.

The training forms part of the Behaviour Change Development Framework (BCDF) and Toolkit which aims to support the behaviour change development of the workforce at all levels. The framework and toolkit can be access at www.behaviourchange.hee.nhs.uk and includes assessment tools to assess which level of behaviour change a worker should be trained at; a competency tool identifying what is required for each level of behaviour change and a whole host of tools and resources to support behaviour change development for individuals d workforce leaders. To find out more check out the short animation video on the BCDF https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3DZg0jG-FU.

There are two Behaviour Change Literacy elearning courses. The Behaviour Change Literacy elearning for Individual Learners and an advanced Behaviour Change Literacy elearning for Workforce Leaders. We recommend that learners complete one of the sessions depending on their role.
