Children born preterm (before 37 weeks of gestation) are at increased risk of a range of cognitive, social, emotional and learning difficulties, compared with children born at term. These difficulties may persist throughout childhood and adolescence and can have a negative impact on children’s attainment at school. This elearning programme is designed to improve users’ knowledge of the long term consequences of preterm birth on children’s development and to improve professionals’ competence in supporting preterm children’s learning. Although designed for education professionals, the programme will also be of interest to health and care professionals involved in the care of children and young people born preterm. This programme was co-designed with stakeholders including educational psychologists, teachers, teaching assistants, parents of children born preterm and young adults who were born preterm.
