About the Supporting Self Care programme

Supporting Self Care elearning is designed for healthcare professionals supporting people with long-term conditions. It will help them give people the confidence and skills to take greater control over their own health and wellbeing.

By the end of the learning healthcare professionals will be able to give expert advice, help people understand their condition and make informed choices about the support they wish to access from the resources available.

The curriculum for the project was developed by the Academy of Medical Colleges in association with the Royal College of Physicians, with input from many other healthcare professional bodies. The materials have been written by subject specialists and experts in their particular field and have been subjected to extensive peer review by a wide range of stakeholder groups.

Supporting Self Care

Skills and knowledge training

The session content includes information on skills and knowledge training, tools and self-monitoring devices, healthy lifestyle choices and support networks:

  1. Supporting Self Care
  2. The Role of the Healthcare Professional
  3. Integrating Self Care into Current Practice

Session content

There are three elearning sessions, each 20 minutes long, incorporating video clips and case studies which present the views of the individual, the healthcare professional and the healthcare provider.

Some of the exciting features of these materials include the incorporation of high resolution images, videos clips and animated interactions, to enrich the learning experience and increase visual accessibility.

The materials have been designed so that they can be used on a standard laptop or PC via a broadband internet connection at home or at work.
